Crimes against police service animals are crimes against 'property'. To kill or injure a police service animal is a summary conviction punishable only by a fine. The same is said for all animals in Canada.

But often charges can not be laid due to the vague wording of Canada's 115 year-old animal cruelty laws.

Police Service animals put their lives on the line 'everyday' to protect 'our' property and 'our' lives. They do it for free accommodation and food. As well as the love and respect of their handlers and fellow officers.

Our Canadian laws should not only distinguish their crucial role in our unique society but also recognize their selfless duties by passing a meaningful law that protects these noble, highly trained, and skilled animals in the criminal code. Our current law does not. Passing
‘Brigadier’s Law’   would.

Under the current law criminals know they can kill and maim police service animals and any animal with near immunity.

Is that fair?

Is this the Canada you want the world to see? As progressive and sensitive to all peoples but indifferent and disrespectful to police service animals? Animals that help provide the very atmosphere and security that makes this great country a leader in rights and freedoms.

Brig's Walk

The premise behind this walk is to lead a horse from outside of Toronto to Parliament Hill in Ottawa. With the sole purpose of rallying Canadian public support to call on the current government to pass
'Brigadier's Law'This bill would put purposely killing a police service animal and all animals in it's own section of the criminal code and out of the crimes against property code.

Isn’t it about time?
